Football: St Christophter hold out for a point at Eastern Green

Inter City League

Eastern Green Primary  0 – 0 St Christopher Primary

Thursday 8th January

St Christopher’s football team won a hard fought for point away at Eastern Green in the Inter City League Football Competition. Under pressure for the majority of the game the defence held out against wave after wave of attacks from the home team. George in the St Christopher goal put in fantastic display between the sticks pulling off save after save – including a first half penalty – to deny the home side.  The penalty – awarded in the very first minute – was driven hard and low but George, who saved three penalties in cup game against Grangehurst Primary School, dived to his right to push the ball around the post. The save drew a loud cheer and applause from the watching parents and teachers.

The whole team worked incredibly hard again in the second half, showing great character and resilience and battling through to the final whistle. The result could have been different however as in a rare breakaway attack St Christopher could have snatched victory when Lewys saw his fine strike cannon back off the crossbar with the home goalkeeper well beaten.
