St Christopher Primary School girls football team enjoyed a fine 5 goal win at John Shelton Primary School on Tuesday evening.

Playing in unbroken sunshine on a pleasant summer afternoon the girls kicked off the game and Neve (Y6P) , Lily (Y5N) and Mia (Y4D) forming a tough tackling, hard working midfield that soon began to dominate the game. Kate (6L), Rosie (5N) and Tilly (5N) proved to be a strong defensive unit too that the home struggled to break down leaving Kaycee (5T) our goalkeeper with little to do in the first half.  Neve, playing her first game for the school team, opened the scoring with a fine shot. A few moments later Chloe(6L), on as a substitute played a great pass to Lily who placed a shot past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0. John Shelton Primary showed great resilience however and  started to get back into the game and scored a well deserved goal which Kaycee was powerless to do anything about. Kate, who had another strong game in defence, began to use her long throw when taking throw-ins and this caused the home team all sorts of problems. St Christopher were unlucky not to score more goals before half-time. Half-time score 2-1.

Mr Coyle made some more changes at half-time as Mia went in goal and Kaycee took the chance to play in midfield. Rosie went into attack and Neve went into defence. Straight from the kick off it was clear that Rosie was excelling in her new role and she soon found herself free in front of goal to score her first ever goal for the school. Clearly this gave her the taste for more and within ten second half minutes she had scored two more goals to secure a hat-trick. At the end of the game the two teams lined up to shake hands showing great sportsmanship. The two teams then posed together for photographs before the St Christopher girls thanked their hosts and left on the minibus.
