Dave Moore 7-a-side Boys Football Tournament

It was a busy evening of football last Thursday as St Christopher hosted the Dave Moore 7-a-side football tournament. The home side entertained Potters Green, Courthouse Green and Whoberley in a round robin series with the group winners going forward to the final at Christ the King on Saturday.

St Christopher took on Potters Green first losing narrowly to the only goal of the game which came in the final minute. Goalkeeper George blocked a powerful close range shot but the ball ran lose to a Potters Green forward who was able to poke the rebound home. The game was a very even contest of few chances with both defences dominant.

In the second game against Whoberley, St Christopher went straight onto the attack creating a number of chances all of which went begging. At the end of the first half however Jack put the home team ahead with a tidy finish following a good team build up. Tom came on as a substitute and his hard work and pace gave him an opportunity to score a second only to be thwarted by good defending. Jack then had the opportunity to add to his tally but his run and low shot was well saved by the Whoberley keeper. Despite late pressure from Whoberley, St Christopher held out for the win.

The final game against Courthouse Green was a very even and open contest with chances a plenty for both teams. Both goalkeepers made excellent saves and Lewys was very unlucky to see a fine shot strike the bar with the goalkeeper beaten. The game finished in a draw which meant that St Christopher finished second overall and Potters Green – who won all three of their games – went through to the final. The evening was a great success and future tournaments will follow later in the year.
