The St Christopher Primary School Tag Rugby team enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of Tag Rugby at the Old Coventrians Rugby Club on Wednesday afternoon.

In glorious Summer sunshine the team sat and enjoyed lunch before playing in a  group with five other teams, one of four groups from many Coventry primary schools. This was a first for all of the children in the squad as they have not played in a tag rugby tournament before so this was a learning experience. Our first game was against King Henry VIII School a daunting prospect. The team found themselves quickly down by three tries. However they showed fantastic resilience in the second half to cross for three unaswered tries to bring the score level. With the very last play of the game however King Henry VIII snatched victory.

Having lost the first game the children were disappointed having played so well. They reflected on what they had done well and what they could improve on and in the second game against Cannon Park they showed that they had learned quickly as they dominated the game with some excellent passing scoring six tries in a 6-3 win.

The third game was a fantastically exciting game with several excellent tries from both sides. The victory went to Coundon Primary A by a score of 7-5 .

Our final match was another high scoring affair against the eventual group winners Mount Nod A. The game finished 9-7 in favour of Mount Nod.

All of our children really enjoyed the experience and even though we took a predominantly year 5 squad to play in a year 6 tournament our boys and girls showed great promise and are all greatly looking forward to next year.
