Ten girls from  year five and six travelled to Henley Green Primary School on a hot Thursday afternoon this week for their first taste of a high fives netball competition. On the fabulous all weather floodlit courts at Henley Green Primary School the teams greeted each other with handshakes and excited chatter before – after a quick warm up – Miss Potter called the first two teams together to start the games.

The initial game started tentatively but then both sides quickly settled down. St Christopher scored the first goal of the game through goal shooter Rosie and this was quickly followed by a second from goal attack Olivia as the visitors took control. The game then became very open but neither side could add to the scoring and the game finished with a 2-0 win to St Christopher thanks to excellent defensive work from goalkeeper Grace, goal defence Kaycee and centre Jaspreet.

The second game was a very one-sided affair as goals from Goal Shooter Mia L (2) and Mia P (1) gave St Christopher a solid 3-0 win. Both teams had played a game each now and had yet to concede a goal again this was due to excellent defending from Kate, Elaine and Erin . Henley Green were starting to grow in confidence however and the third fixture was a much tighter affair. St Christopher edged the game 2-1 again thanks to a goal piece from both Mia L and Mia P.

Henley Green were learning quickly and to huge cheers from watching parents and teachers they took the lead in the final game and held onto it despite St Christopher having many chances of their own with Kaycee going close on several occasions.

At the end of the games the girls posed for team photographs then shared squash and biscuits and a chat about their experiences before boarding the minibus for the journey back to St Christopher.
