World Book Day – Thursday 5th March

This year World Book Day is being celebrated on Thursday 5th March. Reading and getting enjoyment from reading books is something that we really value at St Christopher and World Book Day is an excellent way to support and extend this! All children will be participating in reading challenges during the day as part of ‘The Big Book Off!’

Dressing up!
This year, we would like the children to dress up as their favourite animal from a book! This could be Fantastic Mr Fox, Peter Rabbit, the Hungry Caterpillar, a dragon from How to train your dragon, Babe or an imaginary animal like the Gruffalo! There will be prizes for the best costumes.

Competition!
If your child would like to enter, we would like them to re-design the front cover of their favourite book. They could use paint, felt tips, photos or collage! Their entry should fit on an A4 sheet of paper and have your child’s full name and class on the back. Please give all entries to your child’s class teacher by Wednesday 4th March. There are soft toys, book vouchers and cinema vouchers to be won!

At home, you can encourage your child further by visiting the website http://www.worldbookday.com/ and getting involved with some of the many great activities online. Children will receive their £1 vouchers on the day too and we would encourage you to use these to reduce the cost of a book or to purchase one of the special £1 World Book Day books.
